CarbonNeutral®
Cyan Group has been awarded CarbonNeutral® company status!
This means that we have reduced the amount of CO2 we produce to zero.
What has Cyan Group done then?
- Measured CO2 emissions from travel, waste and energy
- Set in motion plans to reduce CO2 gradually through internal changes
- Immediately reduced CO2 emissions to zero through carbon offsetting
How have we got to zero CO2? - that was quick.
We have reduced what we can internally - things like turning off light switches when we leave a room. Then we have 'offset' the rest through The CarbonNeutral Company - they organise for every 1 tonne of CO2 to be 'neutralised' by 1 tonne saved somewhere else in the world by a climate friendly project. One 'offsets' the other.
What internal changes are happening?
What projects are we supporting through carbon offsetting?
Kotmar Waste Heat Recovery in India
This project captures waste heat at a steel plant and uses it to produce electricity fed into the local grid.
Sichuan Province Hydro Power in China
This is four small 'run-of-river' hydro power stations in Sichuan Province, western China. The project displaces electricity traditionally produced by burning fossil fuels.
Rhine-Ruhr Waste Gas Power in Germany
This project captures leaking methane from three abandoned coal mines in Germany. Methane is 21 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.
Solar Water Heating Systems in Southern India
This Ashden Award winning project helps swap out polluting kerosene for clean solar panels in remote areas of India.
What are our future plans?
As the internal reductions kick in and our CO2 emissions drop, we will need to buy less carbon credits to ensure that we have net zero CO2 emissions.
