A campaign that includes printed material, branded product and something that has to arrive at many locations is really three production timelines that must land together. Managing them as one plan, from one stock position, is what keeps the launch date honest.
Work backwards from the arrival date
Start at the date material must be in people's hands, then subtract distribution, kitting, delivery into storage, production and approvals. The result is the date artwork actually has to be signed off, which is usually earlier than anyone assumed.
Identify the long pole early
Bespoke product and bespoke packaging normally take longest; digital print is often the most flexible. Knowing which element sets the critical path tells you where to protect time and where a late change is survivable.
Kit once, distribute many times
If the same pack goes to branches, dealerships, offices, venues, sales teams or individual customers, hold the components in one managed position, kit to a single specification and split at despatch. It avoids moving the same components between sites more than once, and it means one team is counting the stock.
Treat address data as part of production
Distribution lists arrive late and untidy more often than artwork does. Agreeing the format at the start, and confirming who owns the list, prevents a finished campaign sitting in a warehouse waiting for a spreadsheet.
Decide what happens to the leftovers
Some overs are sensible; unmanaged overs become a storage problem. Agree up front whether the remainder is held for call-off, redistributed later or deliberately not produced, and keep a record of what is still available for the next phase.
